Do Not Give Up

Robert Donovan a writer in his very own words said “giving up is the ultimate tragedy”. This implies that most of us are likely to have tragic ends just because we give up easily on our dreams. When we are scolded, we give up. When we don’t make an interview, we give up. Even in our homes, we give up so easily on our chores, husbands, wives and even children. To most people giving up is easier than continuing heading on towards our goals. Don’t give up on your plans. It takes pain to achieve success. Don’t give up on your dreams. Develop a thick skin of resistance and know that it is the steadfast only that finishes the race and not the participants. Determine to follow through your plans no matter what.

Sometimes it is consistency and our perseverance that determine our success. Success itself does not happen in an instance but it is achieved through dint of hard work, persistence, prayer and good will. Nothing comes easy, even putting this piece together sure did come at a price. You need to be diligent and consistent in your plans and activities if you want to reach your goals. The inability to coordinate your self may likely be one of the many reasons why you probably give up on your plans. If you fail to plan, you are likely going to give up on your dreams so often because you’ve not even planned ideally. There has been no foundation so you should not be expecting the house to stand.
Don’t give up on your plans because if you did, you would have directly or indirectly affected your progress and may also be indirectly affecting numerous lives which ought to have benefited from your plans and dreams. There are so many reasons why you cannot afford to give up, chief of which according to Benjamin Franklin,is that “lost time is never found again”. Let me take a moment to shed more light why you should never give up:

Always know that success is a result of hard work. Forget about the lottery now and let’s talk about real work. If you want to make a mark in your field or calling, maybe it’s time to put in more time. Move away from the level of wishing to the level of doing. To become an expert takes consistent practice. In our age it is mostly said more like a cliché that one should work ‘smart and not hard”. You need to be smart on your job but you sincerely need to work more than the average. Working hard increases your chances of continuous accomplishment while being smart on the job makes your tasks easier. You need to develop skills that can make your hard work noticeable.

Also know that becoming successful does not come cheap. While it is important that being a success at what one does is crucial, staying successful should be paramount in your mind. This is one simple reason why companies recreate themselves. Innovation, research and development are some of the strategies companies use to sustain their edge and competitiveness in the market. Very few people will be rich while staking bets or playing the lottery. This is a fact. To become rich and wealthy you need to become diligent at what you do and take hold of opportunities when they present themselves. Most people try to wait on luck as against taking their chances. It is important to have your resources in place before you embark on your plans. It is also impossible to have everything you need to succeed in place all at once. However knowing all you need to succeed or function effectively and efficiently on a task is important so that you will be able to determine your true position and move steadily towards your desired goals.
Here are a few tips on overcoming giving up on your plans. These are tips you should use when you start to lose steam and are gradually dropping the idea of moving on with your plans.

Re-appraise your plans immediately. There is need to have a sense of urgency in self appraisal or an overall appraisal of your team when you start to notice dwindling outcomes or slow movement towards your goals. Self appraisal is the most effective form of appraisal and should be done periodically to ascertain your true position in every endeavor you embark upon. Are your plans dynamic? Do you carry your team along when developing your goals and focus? Be inclusive in information gathering and agreement with your team. It pays when all agree to the same focus and direction. While it is good to have a detailed plan, it is also important to note that times change and so does situations and circumstances. We should continually be guided with the current realities and thereon move towards our expectations. When we don’t have expectations, chances are that we will give up on whatever we do or are doing.

Revise your strategies. Strategies are coordinated action steps that are capable of taking you towards your desired goals if they are well utilized. They however are not flawless and it is on this premise that you should constantly revise them if they seem not to be achieving the desired results or your expectations. It is important to note that every action we take will either move us closer or farther away from our goals. I believe that it is time you reappraise your strategies to determine if they still meet the current realities of your situation.

Keep on pushing on. After working on your plans once again, it is time to pick up and start all over again. Remember that tough times don’t last but tough people do. Thomas Edison kept on trying with the electricity bulb until he got it right. You can get it right too, just keep on keeping on.

Develop your skin of resistance. Interestingly this will be the second time I will write about this in a single message. This shows the importance of not giving up. Boost your self esteem and confidence by doing what you have agreed to do. Take action once again and put in your best one more time. See you on top of your riches.

Doing Things Differently

Assess your true position
Determine to refocus
Seek agreement or concurrence with yourself/team
Develop new strategies
Take action
Constantly check your performance

Most of us claim that times are hard not knowing that we are the ones that are hard on ourselves. We complain that things are not going the way we anticipate but we really fail to take a hard look on the realities that surround us. We are quick to discover loopholes in our plans or our team’s that is for those of us that work in a structured environment but fail to proffer new solutions to our situations.
There are so many reasons why things don’t work and also there are many reasons why we must make them work. Chief of it is that we must strive to exist at best. Secondly we must make a mark, an impact if we want to continue to exist. Thirdly the future depends on us and the journey to that future starts now.
If things don’t work out the way we envisage in our businesses, relationships and commitments, I strongly believe that things need to be done differently.
A saying that it is a mad man that does the same thing yet expects different results. We cannot continue in ignorance yet desire to be filled with wisdom and knowledge. We must determine to change our attitude as well as our beliefs to get the desired results we earnestly seek. If we do things differently, different things will happen. While change is one of the hardest thing to embrace the truth of the matter is that we can barely do anything about it but to change our strategies, actions, mindsets and purpose. We see in parts , we dream in parts but our little parts can make such a big difference. Now is the time to believe that we need a revival, a renewed commitment and vigour to face the challenges of life. As we face new challenges let us come out of our comfort zones and proffer new ways of arriving at our solutions and stand up, walk and take action.
Here are a few tips on changing your present position to your desired position.

Assess your true position: Where are you now? This is a question that you must keep asking yourself. Always strive to benchmark your outcome with the acceptable standard in your field. This will give you the opportunity to evolve with your contemporaries and even an opportunity to set a trail. If you know where you are now and you know where you expect to be it is a good starting point. If you find out that you need to make an improvement you might consider reassessing your position and highlight the factors that have made it so.

Determine to refocus: Focus is essential if you want to achieve anything. If you place a microscope that is facing the sun close to a paper for a couple of minutes, the intensity of the sun on the paper will produce fire. This is remarkable. Focusing on your priorities will take you closer to your goals. Distractions will always cause you delays. It will undermine your credibility and can affect your self esteem. A simple way to stay focused is to write down your tasks after you have decided what your goals are. Have a to do list now.
Seek agreement and concurrence with yourself/team: It is important to know what you or your team to wants to achieve to before you embark on the journey of success. One of the causes of divorce in our contemporary society is incompatibility. As an individual, you need to make up your mind on what you want to achieve before you embark on any enterprise. This will save you a lot of time doing the wrong things. You can't afford to make a sales call without knowing what to sell. You need to be deliberately in order to move forward. What have you agreed on as a team? Is there an agreement by the team? Is there a buy in from the team. Are your goals measurable, realistic, relevant and timely. Work on that as an individual and as a team.

Develop new strategies: Strategies are coordinated action steps taken to achieve a goal, purpose or outcome. The strategies you have used so far will have produced some results but might be a far cry to where you intend to be. Do you want to be more happy in your relationship, why not consider being more expressive than being quiet or recluse. Being quiet or recluse might keep you out of trouble but it might stifle you of more interaction. Its all a matter of choice. If your strategies are not achieving the desired results, why don’t you consider developing new ones. Maybe it is time you checked out your strategies once again and fine-tune them to work with new realities.

Take action : This is the most important part in achieving whatever it is that you want to achieve. Action speaks louder than talk. You might have the best plans but if you don't take action chances are that you will stay on a spot. It is the start that stops most people. As NIKE would say 'just do it'. You can just start from the simplest task. Write a chapter today. Pick up the phone and make that call now. It is important that you are moving towards your goals by taking deliberate steps towards your goals.

Constantly check your performance: While you are striving to reach your goals, take time off to reappraisal your situation. Whatever gets measured gets achieved. I'm sure you've heard about that. Appraise your self periodically to know if you have met your own expectations or you have made deviations. It is necessary to check your performance so as to be sure you are heading towards the right direction.

In the course of the new year take time to set new goals for yourself if you have not done that already. For those of us that have already set our goals let us take time to devise new ways of getting towards the realization of our goals. See you on top of your riches.

The Manager's Tips For Productivity

The reason for this article is to share with you what I believe today’s managers need as a result of my reading the book “The Mafia Manager”. I have read the book a couple of times and I find it interesting, educating and inspiring. This is not where I am going to about this book anyway.  The mafia according to what we all seem to know is a lifestyle of the Italian immigrants in America whose organizational skills and notoriety earned them recognition in the American economy.

The mafia was founded and ran with some outstanding principles some of which are fear, compliance to laid down procedures, loyalty and productivity. What I want to note here is the last sprinciple which is productivity. It is anti-human not to be productive. It is worrisome to have a business that will not yield returns more so sustain and perpetuates itself. In order to be assured the maxim of returns, the mafia manager rules by fear of reprimand for non productivity. Let’s skip into the 21st century. Most people work hard at their work not because they do not want to lose their jobs but due to some of the reasons stated below:

·         They want to survive

·         They don’t want to be naked

·         They want to continue to afford their fantasies

·         They don’t want to lose their friends

·         They don’t want to lose their spouses and the lists goes on and on

In as much as fear rules us sometimes, our survival instincts also and most often develop our creative and imaginative skills to survive. This is where I am going, please do follow me. If you have not read the book “The Mafia Manager”, kindly go to your local book store or order online at www.amazon.com. We are linked to various online bookstores and will also help make your search through personal development stuffs and articles exciting as your browse through our related articles, videos, products and services that can catapult you and your businesses to greater heights. You can get to order similar personal development books, videos on conquering fear, eliminating indecision and procrastination. You can also get books and videos on time management tips and techniques for everyday living. If you want to be more productive with your time I will suggest you read my book titled “TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR TIME, TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE”.

Also of note in the book Mafia Manager was that there was a culture of education and training. You cannot jump ship except you were a genius or possibly a psycho, probably killing the boss or being the boss’s son. For you to be a good manager you must possess:

·         Strong education

·         Relevant skills

·         Experience

·         Personality

·         Connections

Now tell me if these are not some requirements needed in our typical business environment. We live in a competitive world, global for that matter. You need a strong education to give you the leverage for selection and enrolment. After getting yourself educated you need hands-on experience to groom your educated mind. While doing that you need to develop new skills and fine tune old ones. Your skills get noticed as a result of education and experience. Your personality is your passport. A cheerful heart makes a cheerful face. And in this century you sure need connections to get your business leads. Join a local club, be a member of your church or mosque. Offer yourself to help your local community and you can use your contact to strengthen your leads.  Remember the fear of the unknown is one of the stimulants for the great inventions of our time. Fear as it is a weakness can be converted to one of our greatest assets of all time. I see you on top of your riches

Remember and Appreciate

As I stepped out of my house one Saturday morning to observe my weekend training session-this entails jogging within my avenue and doing some sit-ups. I decided to change my routine and instead took a walk in my neighborhood to feel the morning breeze.  I consciously took my time looking at the still well lit mansions sprawled around the neatly manicured gardens. The street was still very quiet so I had time to really savor the wonders of human imagination and creativity. I could hear faint voices of kids running around behind the walls probably a weekend ritual like my own too. Looking at these magnificent buildings was enough to challenge one’s thinking. I remembered the first time I bought a car. I was ecstatic!  Though I knew I was going to buy a car sometime I honestly wondered how this was going to happen. If you knew where I came from then you will understand. My parents were from the middle class income bracket and my father used a car for 27 good years not because he loved using it but because he had a lot of bills and hangers on to take care of. It was funny though but somehow I am so proud of him. The most important thing he ever focused on was to get us educated. I am enjoying this great legacy today.

I could not sleep because I was just waiting to get into the car and drive off to nowhere! The car became a very important thing to me. Today I am grateful to my parents, much more grateful to God as I remember and appreciate the good things of life I have come to and still are enjoying. When you remember and appreciate the good times it prepares you for a greater future.  Now when I remember that day I always become thankful and appreciative knowing that more of these goodies are still coming my way.

Really there is nothing that cannot be achieved. The thought started with little savings here and there. There were days I would have to sacrifice my lunch or refuse to go out with the boys to the club. Oh I was stingy with something’s even to myself and some of my friends wondered where my money was going to. To me all I wanted was to buy a car. When I moved into the city of Abuja from Ibadan, I left the comfort of my parents’ home to survive in the uncertainties of the mega city life. I conditioned myself to get the best from the megacity and not to expect the worst. It is all in the mind. With nobody to turn to but my instincts I began my own journey to success. After staying with a friend for some while I moved into my own apartment with just a mattress and my clothes. To say I was happy is an understatement. This little progress meant a lot to me because I knew I was moving forward.

Now when I walk down the street and I see edifices littered around with their owners parading themselves in front of them or driving out of the street I just smile to myself and say these guys were just like me at some point, I am definitely going to be like them very soon. We can get to wherever we want to only if we know where we want to get to. Happiness does not come from only from the abundance of possessions but also from our past and present achievements. When you think back and remember, this is one sure way of appreciating your present position and one great strategy of moving forward in life. Our sorrows stem from the fact that we want to become big all at once. So my dear friends, when you walk down from your building take time to smell the roses if you have any or just look around and see the wonderful things that surrounds you. Even if you are in the comfort of your offices and are checking through your numerous bank accounts remember and appreciate your little beginning. It takes a lot to remember and appreciate our humble beginnings. I see you on top of your riches.

Outperform Your Competition

Simply put we are our greatest competition. We constantly battle ourselves often thinking whether we can go beyond which our minds have benchmarked us. Often times we have been fooled that our competitors are our colleagues at work , the next grocery seller on the street or the next door neighbor who sells the same business offerings as you do.  Every battle is started, won or lost from the mind. This is a sad truth. As a man thinks so he is and so he becomes. Your fear is your greatest competitor.

Our imaginations are like shinning lights unto our paths. We will face difficulties, meet with challenges, be subjected to criticism and sometimes face ridicule and rejection. These are unavoidable bumps on the road to success.  We are inclined to believe mostly that our competition is the next person doing our kind of business but interestingly they may not be our only competitor. The truth of the matter is that our fear is our greatest competitor. The man within that tells you that you cannot make that sale, the man that tells you that you can never be a boss or meet your targets. If targets are really set logically, I do believe there will be ways on how they can be achieved.

While I know that your boss can be all out to get you fired, don’t you think that you can make or be a difference? To outperform your competitor, you need to outperform you repressive and reactive mind set that breeds fear in you. Be bold-jump on it and just do that thing. To outperform the competitor within you, it is important that you enhance your thinking. I hope these six tips will get you started on the road to self discovery and consequently towards outstanding achievements.

·         Think Ahead: Ask yourself this question, what can I do to help my situation? You want to get married, go out and make friends. A man who needs friends must appear friendly himself. So move out, make friends and open your heart to love. If you want to start a business go ahead and have a business name. Decide and determine what you have to offer, set your target market, get your pricing right and move on with it. If you cannot do all that consult a professional to help you out. But the first thing you need to do is to take the bold step by thinking ahead what you want to achieve and how you intend to go about it. The principle you live by today will determine the world you will live in tomorrow.

·         Know Your Destination: Where will I lead to? Whatever you think of must take you or lead you somewhere. As you set out of the house in the morning, the steps you made evidently took you away from your previous location to another. You cannot move up north and still expect to be heading down south. You cannot even continue to do the same thing and expect a different result. If you do not set out to make the move, then you might not make the sale. Remember to think ahead and know your destination. This is really important. Always learn to let your imagination come to play in any decision making.

·         Develop Your Arsenal-What do I need?. Sincerely we cannot achieve success alone on our own. Whether you are a super genius or a multibillionaire the truth of the matter is that you need support. The ability to know who can complement you is a great skill required of managers today in the corporate world. It is called putting the round pegs in the round holes. You should be able to know and identify the “who and what” of your business. If you have a product and you do not know how to sell it then it becomes a problem. Organizations hire agents and consultants to find the right fit of employees to help them achieve their business objectives. As an individual you need to develop your arsenal too. Read books, attend conferences or choose a mentor.

·         Identify Your Strong Points: He who has no weakness is a god but interestingly we all have weaknesses. Nevertheless we also have strengths and strong points that make us tick. Maybe you are a good negotiator or a creative geek, it could be that you are a good listener or a good communicator. Use what you have to get what you want. Sell yourself with these strengths and you are sure to come up and be noticed. We get paid or attracted to because of what we are noted for.

·         Develop An Enduring Image- What do peole think of you?. Do not think that it is only businesses that need branding. If you are not a brand chances are that you cannot work for a brand. Organizations hire based on skills and competences. Your skills are part of your entire image. Your personality, attitude etc all make you a brand to work with or to work for. Your brand is your identity. It is the image you project to people.  At REELinc we believe that branding makes 30% of the probability of your sales process work out. Our brand is the first impression our customers see about us. It gives us the leverage to compete in this fast paced century of ours.

·         Be Constantly Open To New Ideas: Ideas they say rule the world. Learn how to respond to your environment. Learn how to create a new life to your business and personality. Ideas are not static. Even your vision should not be static. Develop new ways of doing things. Read a new book, watch a new video, try out new technologies and just look for new ways of getting things done.

When you develop the will to succeed from within and actually follow these six tips you sure are taking positive steps to becoming a better person. The man to beat is the man in the mirror. Everybody have their own audience. People have choices and constantly exercise this right. As human beings we thrive on the choices we constantly make and sure this makes the world a better place to live in. Your competitor is yourself because someone out there needs you. I see you on top of your richhes.

How To Let Your Time Work For You.

Is your time working for you or against you? This is a serious question. Many times we sit back and fritter our time away doing nothing. We fail to schedule our tasks, we fail to make up our minds on what we ought to do and worst still expect the cosmic forces to set things in place for miracles to happen. We fail to do what we set out to do and rush to meet deadlines. In the process, we end up starting all over again or lose out completely on achieving our goals. This is not how we are wired to operate.

Just as you can make your money work for you so also can you make your time work for you. There is a Roman saying that preparation meets opportunities to turn to luck or success. This means for you to be successful, you need to prepare and lay in wait in the corridor of opportunities. Wow. That's all about making your time work for you. Time used positively will likely bring about productive outcomes. Once again, if you prepare and station yourself in the right places you are closer to hitting it big with your time. Let me take it a notch higher: it took you some effort to get to my blog. It was either I directly or indirectly invited you via facebook, friends, acquaintances or through your personal discovery. All I am saying is that it took some actions on your part to explore these contents. Don’t sit back, take action. Make your time work for you.

Learn how to focus on tasks that give your time value. Focus on your major activities and keep track of minor activities that might slow you down towards getting to your goals. Achieving goals set for yourself is a pointer that you are investing your time wisely. If you are the type of person that always wait for the final nod before you move ahead doing your tasks chances are that your are selling yourself short. Guys that get promoted are those that make their time work for them. They take charge of their time. The are always proactive. Always learn how to add value to processes in your organization or in anything you do. It saves everybody a lot of time. Here are three tips to keep your ahead of making your time work for you:

1. Know your direction: Do not rush into anything without giving it a thought. You don’t need to say "yes" to that task if it’s going to affect on your own work. Any activity that will impact negatively on your overall goals and objectives should be totally discarded. Why pile added work that will not take you any where? I can’t imagine you working on any other person's desk when you have files to treat and calls to atted to. It is not just fair on yourself. Learn how to politely say "no". A lot of us keep our goals in the cooler while we are busy helping other people achieve their goals. What an irony. This takes me in to the second tip to making your time work for you.

2. Focus on your goals: Whether your goals are personal or collective just get focused on them. For somebody working in a corporate organization, your major goal is adding value to that organization. Any other contrary goal will lead you nowhere and will make your time work against you. You don’t need to do everything that needs to be done in your office yourself but you need to do what you ought to do while you are focused on your goals. Once again, you need to focus on your goal. You need to mind your own business. Successful people don’t do everything they need to do themselves, they do want needs to be done and get the remaining done through other people. This is a profound statement and interestingly takes me to the third tip.

3. Learn how to delegate: There is great power in delegation. From a company's organograms, it is very clear for an observer to know who does what and who reports to whom they are expected to. This saves unnecessary disruption of the flow of operation. It is impossible to achieve your goals alone, so you have to develop the skills of selecting your team. You don’t need to be a boss to learn the importance of delegating tasks. You can delegate even in your house or among your activities. You can delegate tasks and also responsibilities. You cannot put your clothes in the washing machine in the morning when you are supposed to be at work because it is normal that you do your laundry. Everybody expects you to be clean and presentable, but that does not mean you should do your laundry while you ought to be at work. Why not try the laundry man or schedule the task till later in the day? You need to do what you ought to do when you ought to do it.

Making your time work for you in all you do is a lot of job but it is a job worth doing. I see you on top of your riches.
