Desire To Succeed ( Series 1)

Desire To Succeed

What is your greatest desire in life? The word success has many definitions as the world have many thinkers. To some success is defined as influencing the world with one’s personality. Success in my own opinion is achievement of set goals and objectives. The desire to succeed is the driving force of human existence and sustenance. The word desire means to long for, a burning need to get, to be and to become. For you to become wise you need to be knowledgeable, teachable as well as to have the will and power to execute and exercise the knowledge which you have acquired. Success no matter how you look at it means to reach a goal or aspiration which you had always longed for.

According to Napoleon Hill in his famous book “Think and Grow Rich” the first thing one needs to do before he or she gets rich is to think. To think means to imagine. Napoleon Hill’s message is still very much relevant today and I will try to explain the six ways according to Napoleon Hill on how to think and grow rich by turning your desires into gold.

· Fix in your mind the amount of money you desire: Hold it. This is where a lot of folks give up. I have seen so many start-up entrepreneurs throw in the towel when they are asked to write a business plan with a budget to follow. This is the basis for any business to succeed. Ask yourself “how much do I really need to start this business? You do not need to have all that money in your possession but your business plan if well written is the first road map to getting the money. Don’t worry, just write it down. If you can go through the pain of itemizing what you need your problem of getting the money is partially solved. The problem most of us face is mixing with the wrong crowd. Do not follow anybody that is not going anywhere. Fix in your mind the amount of money you need. Our leadership program will give you step by step tips of writing effective business plans and proposals for budding and start up entrepreneurs. Remember it is what you want and its’ all about you. Businesses grow not only on projections though but in the religious realm it is simply called faith.

· Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire: While writing down your vision and mission statements bear in mind exactly the products and service you will be selling or rendering as the case maybe. What will you do with it i.e. the money? It is just like going for an interview and the interviewer asks you why you want to work with them or why you want the job. Would you tell him you wanted the job so you can feed or that you want to add value to the organization by doing so, so and so? Ask yourself daily this question and you will have a mental plan in your mind all the time. Ambition is what keeps legacy alive. Remember you cannot give what you do not have.

· Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire: Always have something to work towards. Time is scarce, use it wisely. An objective that does not have a completion date is no objective at all. Okay…you need two million naira. When do you need it and how soon do you hope to get it? When you set a time frame for your goal, you create a commitment and your mind starts to work on it. Setting a time frame is the first step in planning. This eliminates procrastination and indecision from your thinking and consequently sets you in motion.

· Create a definite plan for carrying out the desire and begin at once: Whether you are ready or not, put this plan into action. Ok you have designed a business plan and also included a budget. Go ahead and start moving. Get a logo, come up with a business name and register that company now. You cannot afford to wait any longer. Write your corporate profile. The point I am trying to make here is that there will never be a time when you will have all the resources you need all at once. So take it a step at a time and set time frames for the phases of your business development. Have you ever asked yourself how Facebook began? It started with just a thought. Start moving towards your goal.

· Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire: Before you move on your journey to success write out a clear statement of what you really need. Give your dream a time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it. Have you heard of the elevator pitch? Constantly we are faced with potential investors and partners and we lose the opportunity to get funding just because we could not articulate our thoughts in clear terms. Time is very important and riding a lift with the CEO is a rare privilege you can get these days. If you are looking for a job in an organization or you have an invention to sell to a business associate you need your killer pitch on what you have, what you need and what it can become. It’s a selfish world out there. People want more money. Companies spend millions of dollars advertising and selling themselves daily in the newspapers, local television, cable TV and even the internet just to compel you and I to patronize them. If big companies can do that why can’t you? I suggest you write a paragraph that captures everything you need and how you can multiply the money for you and your investors.

· Read your written statement aloud twice daily, once before retiring at night and once after arising in the morning: Have you ever asked yourself why advertisements run over a period of time. It is quite simple. They just want it stuck in your brain. Whatever you say, feel and think happens to you. Make sure you get a quiet place to get this statement stuck in your brain.

It is what you desire that you get good or bad. As a man thinks in his heart so he becomes. As for me I have my plans written in my phone and I constantly look at them at the slightest opportunity I have. I suggest you go out and get a diary today and move to becoming a success minded individual you are wired to be. Write how much need to start your business, how soon you need it, what you intend to do with the money and how soon you expect the money to be recouped in case you are borrowing it or getting it through partnership. I see you moving towards achieving your goals. See you on top of your riches.
